@Gusvs9

#menswears Super Swede som blivit utsedd till Årets bäst klädda vanliga man av brittiska Permanent Style. En man utan direkt koppling till branschen men med en lika välbalanserad garderob som god smak. I hans flöde finner vi skräddarsydda plagg från florentinska Liverano och Sartoria Corcos samt skor från t ex Edward Green och Saint Crispins. Passformen är fläckfri och kombinationerna utmärkta så önskar man illustrera för en ändringsskräddare hur man vill att kostymen skall sitta är någon av denne mans bilder en utmärkt förlaga.

@Goldberger

@travelinggentleman

@Arnold.wkt

Designed in 1972 by Gerald Genta the Royal Oak ref. 5402 was Audemars Piguet’s innovation that would take the manufacturer from the brink of obsoleteness. The first high-end luxury steel sports watch came with the remarkably exclusive price tag of 3650 Swiss Francs, which was huge at the time. Being made of steel this watch heralded a new era for watchmakers and wearers alike. While a common thing to see now a days with the likes of Rolex, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Omega etc. being heavily invested in steel luxury sports watches they were inconceivable in the 70’s as watches were luxurious only if they had complications or were made of rare metals. The Royal Oak pushed the boundaries even further than just using steel the Royal Oak was also a big watch back in the day measuring in at 39mm which may be normal by today’s standards but at the time this was a big watch that made a big impression on the watchmaking industry and was for men with just as big a wallet. Named after the HMS Royal Oak thanks to one of her portholes inspiring the octagonal bezel the Royal Oak was a true oddity at the time. The eight visible screws that’s dot the bezel even gave Audemars material to market with them poking fun at how for such an expensive watch it didn’t even have hidden screws. __________________________________________________ #watches #watchesofinstagram #rich #money #rolex #jaegerlecoultre #timepiecehistory #patekphilippe #luxurylifestyle #luxury #richardmille #baselworld #tourbillion #vacheronconstantin #audemarspiguet #watchesofinstagram #watchdaily #wristporn #seiko #watchmaking #omega #hautehorlogerie #watchgeek #nautilus #royaloak #geraldgenta #geraldgentawatches

Inspired by the Reference 6234 Chronograph that was launched in 1955 Rolex launched what would become the Daytona Cosmograph in 1963. Originally called the Reference 6239 Chronograph, Rolex nicknamed the watch the Daytona Cosmograph after having become the official timekeepers for the recently opened Daytona International Speedway the year before in 1962. The Daytona was designed with only racing car drivers in mind. This is evident in the legibility of the particularly large tachymeter scale engraved on the bezel of the watch and the overall durability of the watch. The engraved tachymeter scale is one of the defining characteristics of the watch and gives it the chunky instrumental look Rolex were trying to achieve. The Reference 6239 attracted the adoration of one particular celebrity in the late 60’s, Paul Newman. Newman was a hugely successful actor and racing car driver at the time, with his own racing stable and was gifted the so-called ‘exotic’ dial Daytona. The ‘exotic’ style Daytona differs from the regular Daytona by having a contrasting outer track on the main dial, a cross-hairs in each of the sub-dials and by having the positions of the seconds sub-dial marked as 15, 30, 45 and 60 instead of the standard 20, 40 and 60. Collectors in the 80’s nicknamed the ‘exotic’ styled Daytona as the “Paul Newman” Daytona. Newman is said to have worn the watch every day until 1984, when he gifted it to his daughter Nell’s then boyfriend James Cox. Cox auctioned the watch in 2017 fetching a whopping US$17.75 million making it the second most expensive watch of all time and most expensive wrist-watch of all time. The Daytona 6239 is also iconic for being one of the last few watches to pre-date the implementation of Rolex’ Oyster technologies such as a screw down crown and screw down pushers to opera te the chronograph. The combination of a celebrity like Newman endorsing it and the link to the prestigious Daytona International Speedway is what catapulted the Daytona Cosmograph to being the true classic that it is today.

Following on from the chronographs of the 1920’s and 30’s the Omega Speedmaster was introduced in 1957 as a sport and racing watch. The name “Speedmaster” was derived from the tachymeter scale bezel used to rapidly measure distances and speeds. Famously, the Omega Speedmaster was the watch worn on the first spacewalk as part of the Gemini 4 programme and was the first watch worn by an astronaut on the moon. The Speedmaster is one of the few watches qualified for spaceflight by NASA and the only watch qualified for extravehicular activities such as spacewalks. The Speedmaster was up against watches from Rolex and Longines-Wittnauer in a series of extreme tests to see how they fared during extreme temperature cycling tests, humidity tests, low oxygen tests, shock tests, acceleration/deceleration and vibration tests. The Speedmaster was decided upon after these tests and was first worn into space by Gus Grissom and John Young during the Gemini 3 programme on March 23rd, 1965. The watch finally made it onto the moon during the Apollo 11 programme. Although Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong was the first to step onto the moon he left his Speedmaster on the lunar module as a backup. This meant Buzz Aldrin’s Speedmaster was the first watch on the moon. The watch was tragically lost while being sent to the Smithsonian Institution. Buzz Aldrin can be seen wearing his Speedmaster on the moon above in the third picture. _______________________________________________________ #watches #watchesofinstagram #rich #money #celebrity #rolex #jaegerlecoultre #timepiecehistory #patekphilippe #luxurylifestyle #luxury #richardmille #baselworld #tourbillion #vacheronconstantin #audemarspiguet #watchesofinstagram #watchdaily #wristporn #seiko #silverwave #watchmaking #omega #omegaspeedmaster #speedmaster #astronomy #moon #space #sp aceexploration #hautehorlogerie #watchgeek
