The intersection between tailoring and casual wear is profound, the latter complements the former, serving to meter the formality of the ensemble as a whole whilst bearing an innately functional purpose. The sleeveless cardigan is perhaps one of the finest examples of this relationship. Cut in a similar fashion to the waistcoat, the sleeveless cardigan as its name suggests is a piece of knitwear devoid of sleeves that is to be worn as an intermediate layer in a tailored ensemble – retaining warmth whilst remaining light enough to be worn throughout the day. The cardigan also serves an aesthetic purpose, concealing the break between the shirt and trousers whilst elongating the silhouette – allowing the jacket to be worn unbuttoned if needed. For the flamboyant among us, the sleeveless cardigan provides an avenue to inject colour into what otherwise may be a muted outfit (albeit the Drake’s ensemble pictured is rich in colour sans cardigan). @drakesdiary . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #shirts #VSCOCam #Luxury #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

The beauty of tailoring lies as much in its structural complexities, as within the aesthetics of the garments themselves. The shoulder in particular is a point of fascination, given the fact that it is the foundation from which the jacket is extrapolated from. Whilst some choose to highlight the natural shape of the shoulders by using padding sparingly, others seek to accentuate them. The latter approach is particularly prevalent in British tailoring, whereby strong, masculine silhouettes prevail through structure. Chittleborough and Morgan of Savile Row are one of the most renowned proponents of Britain’s militaristic aesthetic - utilising a tactful amount of padding in the shoulder, and wadding within the sleeve head to create a distinctly heroic jacket. Note how the construction of the shoulders on @m.broowne’s jacket creates a strikingly aggressive, yet elegant aesthetic. @chittleboroughandmorgan Photo credit - @therakeonline . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #shirts #VSCOCam #Luxury #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

For many, Gianni Agnelli is more than a mere style icon - his displays of effortless grace are reminiscent of a time where fast fashion hadn’t yet polluted the concept of elegance, a time where sophistication was the norm. Yet he is a man who is as much renown for his stylistic peculiarities, as for his abidance to sartorial convention. His tendency to fasten his watch over the cuff of his shirt is one of his most fabled eccentricities. It has been speculated that this act was executed with function in mind, allowing him to peruse his watch without having to retract his shirt cuff. Some regard it as a blatant disregard for horological protocol. Semantics aside, it must be viewed for what it is, an embodiment of his devil may care attitude. Everything he did was underpinned by a desire to express his own unique personality, to be quintessentially Gianni Agnelli. This is a concept that is unfortunately missed by some in this age. We try so often to mimic the actions of others that we lose what makes us unique in the process. . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #shirts #VSCOCam #Luxury #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

Balenciaga's recent collection of mens suiting has been nothing short of abhorrent - yet somehow, if not mesmerisingly, has been excused throughout popular media as being an ‘artistic’ abstraction of modern culture, when In actual fact, the majority of the collection is nothing short of ghastly - both in function and form, and thereby offers no real value proposition in the realm of sartorialism. It is somewhat of a shame that the virtues of Cristobal Balenciaga - pictured here in a double breasted ensemble, are no longer extolled by the house which bears his name - especially so given his formal training in tailoring. . . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #VSCOCam #Luxury #Shirts #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

The diffusion of social media in the 21st century has provided stakeholders in the sartorial world with the ability to increase brand exposure, awareness, and recognition like never before. Whilst some tailors have neglected to integrate digital media into their modus operandi (either by choice, or inadvertence), others have utilised it with aplomb. Korean artisans B & Tailor are positioned in the latter category. Through creating and delivering hi-resolution visual content on Instagram, Tumblr and a number of other social media platforms, Jungyul Park and his sons Cangjie and Changwoo have endeared the house to a global audience. The distinctive cut and aesthetic of their garments in particular has accelerated the B & Tailor brand’s rise to prominence. Notions of provenance and exclusivity aside, a number of storied artisans have followed suit, consolidating their digital presence in order to procure new clients, and ensure their longevity. @jungyul_park @bntailor . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #shirts #VSCOCam #Luxury #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

As far as cinematic sartorialism goes, Gregory Peck is one of its finest exponents - perhaps most notably for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in the 1962 classic, To Kill a Mockingbird. Aside from his much lauded three piece suit, Finch is best remembered for his glasses. Such was their popularity and cult like status that luxury Californian eyeware brand, Oliver Peoples drew inspiration from the film in creating the ‘Gregory Peck’ design range - all of which mimic the shape of the glasses worn in the film. Curiously, building on their Californian heritage and subsequent proximity to the realm of Hollywood, Oliver Peoples are renowned for their relationship with film - their wares often adorning the faces of the stars. @oliverpeoples . . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #VSCOCam #Luxury #Shirts #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

The prince of wales pattern is innately resplendent, serving to imbue an ensemble with a degree of sartorial panache. When utilised within a broken ensemble, colour co-ordination is a key concern, particularly in regards to the windowpane overcheck. Congruity can be achieved by incorporating elements derived from the same colour palette as the windowpane component of the pattern. This has been achieved in the ensemble pictured through the wear of a blue waistcoat. Steve McQueen - the King of Cool. Whilst not harkening the sartorial connotations of his counterparts in Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Humphrey Bogart and Gregory Peck - instead purveying a more relaxed ‘work-wear’ aesthetic most akin to motoring than with tailoring, it would be remiss not to include Steve McQueen in our continuation of cinematic sartorialism. Of particular significance are the ensembles McQueen wears during his portrayal of millionaire businessman and thief, Thomas Crowne in the appropriately named 1968 film ‘The Thomas Crowne Affair’. Emphasising his audacity and wealth, Crowne wears predominantly three piece suits, however the most iconic is this glen check ensemble worn in conjunction with a blue shirt and tie, and emblazoned by the gold pocket watch attached to the waistcoat. . . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #VSCOCam #Luxury #Shirts #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

There is a general tendency for men to own more suits than they do overcoats, and as such, the onus lies with the overcoat to match the suit - not vice versa. Hence, the majority of overcoats are purposed for versatility where plain cloths - often those in camel, navy and charcoal, are favoured over their patterned counterparts. As rational as this school of thought may be, it is refreshing to see the inverse, where overcoats are cut in interesting, if not audacious cloths. Whilst the colours remain neutral and versatility is subsequently maintained in this single breasted notch lapel iteration courtesy of Florentine artisans, Liverano & Liverano, the exaggerated houndstooth pattern garners more attention than the suit it envelops. @liverano_liverano @ethandesu . . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #VSCOCam #Luxury #Shirts #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura

Often thought to be reserved for more formal attire, the collar pin (or collar bar) can also be aptly applied in more casual contexts - taking on a more eccentric and quirky aesthetic as it does here when worn in conjunction with a chambray shirt, rich burgundy knitted waistcoat, tweed jacket and silk printed tie. On another level, the disparity in colours, textures and patterns within this ensemble would typically render such an outfit incongruent, however, almost surprisingly, it works brilliantly in this instance - done with a certain nonchalance. @thearmourynyc @drakesdiary @ring_jacket @amechi_ugwu . . . . #thesartorialjournal #sartorialjournal #VSCOCam #Luxury #Shirts #Suit #MensFashion #MensWear #MensStyle #MaleFashion #Dapper #MenWithClass #Gentleman #MenWith #Style #MenWithStyle #Fashion #Bespoke #OutFit #StreetStyle #FashionBlogger #Fashion #sartorial #GQ #PhotoOfTheDay #trends #OOTD #Passion #InstaStyle #sprezzatura
